Racer's Wedge - SB-1, Silver Bullet version  Page 4 - Finishing touches...

There were about 1000 details that needed work - most got done, but I failed to take appropriate pictures.
In the end, they got done and I started on the bodywork.

The most significant part was the PREP and paint.

The prep was by far the hardest part - especially repairing the nose damage.
It took several days of work to clean up (as best I could) the problems, and build a stable nose.  I also changed the profile just a bit
as the 'tilt' had not been to my liking.  I would REALLY like to know how the guys that do this sort of thing for a living get it to look
so good for what they charge.  I'd have to charge $1,000,000 dollars to anyone else!  Above, we're primed and 'almost' ready for paint.
A couple more rounds of wet sanding to go.

The next day turned out to be about perfect for painting (outside).  It would be nice to have a paint booth, ... I guess I DO - it's just
called 'all of outdoors' <g>.  This is after the 3rd coat.  It looked really good ... until the runs started to show up.  I guess I did OK for
an amateur - only had 4 runs and only 2 of them were significant.  If I plan the decals well, I'll hide most of it !

In the midst of all this, this humingbird flew into my garage. He flew in while I was out, up to the ceiling light and pretty much tuckered himself
out.  Just after I walked back in and noticed him flying around the light, he went over the the wall and lit - not to move again.  I 'captured' him
in one of our fish nets and found him to be seemingly comatose.  He finally opened his eyes, but didn't even appear to be breathing.  Lee and I
took him to our front porch (where the feeder hangs) and left him there while we did some more work.  Coming back about 30 minutes later,
he was still in exactly the same place.  As I came up to him, he suddenly started breathing very rapidly - for about 15 seconds, then POW -
he flew off like a lightning bolt :-).  Glad to see he was OK. (you don't get to see these little buggers up close very often.)

Got the bodywork back on the car now.  I didn't have any hardner for the paint, so went without it.  I didn't think it would matter
that much, but after 6 DAYS, I can still leave fingerprints in the paint - will this stuff EVER dry completely?  I sure hope it hardens
before we get to Topeka!  Next, we have to add the decals - VERY carefully due to the soft paint.

OK - here we are.  Pretty much all done - not too bad for a back yard amateur with no talent <g>.
Note new air 'scoop' beneath the heads.  Don't know that it'll help, but it might.  We also added the
windscreen.  It makes it MUCH more difficult to get in and out, but if it makes it faster ....??

And, of course, the obligatory UNDERDOG decal! (to make it go fast).

Now - off to the Runoffs and HOPE it all works like it should...
